La Chinita Book Covers

I selected 'La Chinita' as the character for my illustration and book cover because it was a tale told many times by adults to children back in Ecuador. To my knowledge, there havent been any printed versions of the story but it is more of a chant rather, and orally passed down. The mood of the book is one of worry and fear as the 'chinita' in the story gets lost in a dark forest. My cover illustrates that because on both covers it displays trees and different views of the forest, one as dark and scary and the other as bright, colorful, yet forgotten. I chose a different font for each cover because the illustration varies. The font in each covers pops out to the reader as mysterious perhaps yet simple.

Brush Project

Giftcards!

It was important to limit the color palette in order to keep it simple yet elegant. I decided to use a monochromatic theme for most of them because it enhances the words. I used drop shadows and glows on the text to make the words pop and be noticed first followed by the design and brushes. It should be the first thing noticed when the gift card is viewed. It is also important for the text to be big and stand out above the overall card to get the event across. It is best to place the text in the center to be more noticeable. The themes portrayed are subtle yet display enough sophistication for understanding.

Mi Disfraz Magazine Cover

This magazine cover represents that of "Mis Hijos" in its own version by changing story lines while keeping the cover resemblance. The hardest part about completing this project was the variety of layers that needed to be made for each shape (circles). the changing of the circles' opacity was critical to make each circle noticeable in its different shades. i mainly enjoyed coming up with subtitles for the magazine because it had to pertain to the character and what it could be involved in. I liked this project overall and it gave an insight of what people actually do today as a job. I gained much experience :)

Sailor Puff

I combined sailor moon and blossom from the powerpuff girls. i used the polygonal lasso tool the most to cut out sailor moons apparel and place it on blossoms body. Her eyes were originally pink but i used the brush tool to change them into blue as that of sailor moons. i enjoyed this project very much.

Butterdog

My newimal project was a combination of a butterfly and a dalmation dog. I chose a white butterfly and a spotted dog. I pasted the dog onto the butterfly, eliminating the caterpillar part and just leaving the wings behind. I then used the marquee tool to transfer the spots from the dog to the wings to blend it and make it seem a bit more realistic. The hardest part was probably having to switch back and forth from each layer to stamp the correct patterns on the coressponding picture. It was a long process but i finished it and i am content with the results. FLY AWAY BUTTERDOG!

Rays of Hope- Picture Frame Me

The Picture Frame Me Project was a good way to start off using the materials we've learned from the given tutorials. It provided a way for me to be creative and use what i've learned so far. I decided that i wanted to do something controversial, different. I have put my head inside the picture frame as though im underwater when in reality i am standing in a sun shining desert. There is color but also some contrast with the black and white background sky. I like to think of the rays as a ray of hope shining through in the stress of situations.

Gradients

This tutorial was very helpful in further extending our skills at using the gradient tool which may be one of the most important tools in photoshop because it adds dimention and allows the work to look more realistic. The button was probably one of the favorite items to do while the speaker box was the most irritating with all the marquee shapes required. They were all great objects to work on. Lets go from DARK to LIGHT!

Banana Shine

The Banana Shine tutorial was much easier than the other tutorials have been but it also consists of new tools to enhance our photoshop. The gradient tool was a major part of this project to assimilate the shine from the banana. If i were to do this project again, i would pay closer attention to the layers im working on because it can get a little confusing after duplicating layers. Overall this project was an interesting learning experience, went BANANAS over it!

Colorize Dancer

The Colorize was easier to make than all the other projects so far but it did also introduce alot more techniques that i hadnt used before. I especially like the blur tool to make the dancer come together and really stand out. Each color difference is well blended into the next improving the appearance of the picture. If i had to do this project all over again i would perhaps choose a different shade of colors to make it different than the bright ones i chose for this time.

Leafeer

I chose to combine the deer with imprints of maple leaves. Hunters typically wear camoflauge when hunting for deer and in this case, the deer is the one wearing camoflauge to avoid the hunters' rifles. I would say that the most difficult part of this project was being able to get the right shade of the leaf imprint to allow the animal to be shown through as well. If i were to do this project again, i would pay closer attention to matching each layer of leaf imprint a little bit better than i did this time. Overall this project showed me much more techniques to apply in further projects.

Frog Tongue

Overall i was not too content with this piece because the blending of the tongue is a little bit off. It was hard to be able to get the right shades of tongue in the right places. This project was interesting because it had much more blending concepts and if i had to do it again i would pay more attention to the frog. Switching back and forth between layers was a little tedious but in the end i learned new things so it was worth it. WELL BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!

Hungry Pancake

I think the final product of this art piece turned out to be decent considering its a first time experience. The parts i most liked about making this project is the idea of being able to tie two completely different things into one piece in a way that can cause emotions that each picture alone would not have caused. If i were to experiment with this project again then i would definitely be a little more careful to not over-liquify. Through this project I learned how to use a couple of the tools in photoshop with which i had never expiremented before. LETS CONTINUE WITH THE ART!
